Otago Hunt Inc 140th Jubilee Summary

Otago Hunt hosted their 140th Jubilee in Middlemarch, Otago 2nd - 6th April 2023.

This event was attended by upwards of 330 people over the course of the week.  Visitors came from afar, including England, Ireland and Scotland.

The NZ ferries across Cook Strait gave many North Island travellers a few more grey hairs!!

The weather played its part on the whole, considering there was snow the week prior and persistent rain the week following....

3 Hunts were held over a range of our country.  Macraes was a fast running, busy day.  Black Rock was more of a purist, "watch hound work" type of hunt and Barewood was it's usual "guaranteed good runs" type of day.

The "Trip" day was appreciated by everyone who participated - all coming back to say their "trip" was the one to be on!!!

Cottesbrook was the perfect venue to host both the Kim Clifford Distillery Gin tasting as well as the Bridge IT NZ Barn Dance.   Both were a roaring success with Brad Staley Music getting everyone on their feet and boogeying well into the evening.

The Carousel Equestrian Hound Show day, held at Wingatui racecourse in Mosgiel, was extremely well attended.  Once again the weather played ball and the addition of the Trade Displays added to the atmosphere of the day.  Pakuranga Hunt took out Supreme Champion with their dog hound "Lamu".

The Clutha Vets Ball also packed out the Winning Post Lounge at the Wingatui Racecourse.  A seated 3 course meal with Jonathon Usher, the Magician, providing entertainment and helping with the whisky barrel auction, before Oxo Cubans provided the music to dance the night away.

The PGG Wrightson Marqee, based at the showgrounds, was a hit.  Having a communal area for everyone to come to for their evening meals and a "catch up" worked very, very well.  Nick, from Kim Clifford Distillery, went over and above, doing several of our food options, decorating our venues as well as supplying lovely cocktails and drinks for us over the week.

Kerri Back Photography, Moffats Pix and Infinitum Studios did a great job of recording the week for us digitally.

Annie Jackson from Clutha Vets, Graeme and Jo Irvine, medics, Jordan Dent Farrier and fencer Dave Prictor all made sure our safety needs were met.

The local Middlemarch Community groups and Kerri from Wingatui racecourse fed us beautifully all week.

All in all, it was a fantastic week and many thanks to everyone who helped celebrate our 140th Jubliee.  We look forward to your return in 10 years time......
